About This Blog

The_Earth_seen_from_Apollo_17-NASAThe Pale Blue Dot is a blog about our home: planet Earth. In particular the natural forces that shape the thin shell that we live on.

Earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides and tsunamis evoke images of fear and destruction in our minds. In ancient times these were revered and worshipped as the power of Gods.

The advent of critical thinking and logical thought has brought these elemental forces from the plane of deities to the realm of science.

This blog explains the latest scientific understanding of natural and environmental hazards.  How these events affect people and how we can save lives from them.

Human induced climate change is quite possibly the greatest threat to human life our generation has faced. I will explore how we’ve managed to get ourselves to this stage and more importantly what we can do about it.

The blog is aimed at a general but informed audience. So no detailed prior knowledge should be required  for you to enjoy the articles. You are encouraged to comment, discuss and debate as much as you like. Any spam and irrelevant material will be removed.

Please get in touch if there’s a topic you would like me to cover in more detail.

See here for a background to the name of the blog.

Enjoy!
